Martin Phillipps was the founding singer?songwriter and long?time leader of New Zealand band The Chills, which he formed in 1980. He wrote the band’s best?known songs (including “Pink Frost” and “Heavenly Pop Hit”), recorded for Flying Nun and later Fire Records, and was the subject of the 2019 documentary The Chills: The Triumph & Tragedy of Martin Phillipps. He remained the band's driving creative force through multiple line?up changes until his death in July 2024.
